This interview was conducted with Nazia Miah at Solaris in Hudson, New York onSunday, January 28, 2024. Nazia was born in Queens, New York but was brought up in Hudson, New York. Nazia describes her childhood in Hudson, playing outside her house with her neighbors, going to school and attending the only Mosque in Hudson. She also shares how her family came from Bangladesh to New York with a focus on the story of her father and mother. Nazia works a Program Assistant at Kite’s Nest in Hudson and speaks about the feeling of working with both the youth and adults there. Nazia describes the importance of her relationships within her family and how they have helped her be where she is today.
Catherine Baum is twenty-six years old and grew up in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. At the time of this interview, she recently moved to New York City after two year sof moving around and one and half years living onboard an educational sailboat.She attended Bard College. She works with high schoolers and teaches sailing. Nazia and Catherine had not met prior to the weekend the interview took place.
